A huge congrats to Ballerina Misty Copeland for landing the lead role in Washington Ballet's production of "Swan Lake". Misty Copeland became the first African American to perform a lead of Odette, in United States History. Copeland casted was deemed as "long overdue" and resulted in "broken barriers", according to The New York Times. In 2015, Copeland also earned her place on Time Magazine's 100. Misty Copeland is a pioneer. “I never thought I could make a career out of something I enjoyed doing–something I was passionate about, something that gave me a voice, ” says Copeland, who is one of the first African Americans to be a soloist with American Ballet Theatre. |
