Kira Hayze, born Brittney Durgan, hails from North Carolina, is another artist that I discovered thanks to Black&SexyTV. Just as our last feature in Artist You SHOULD Be Listening To Morish Danee`, Hayze’s music is often featured on episodes of webseries produced by Black&SexyTV. So who exactly is Kira Hayze?
I had a chance to speak with her and pick her brain to learn more about the beautiful person behind the music. She, unlike other artists I’ve researched, doesn’t have many videos of her performing (if any, I’m still looking) and that made her all the more intriguing to me.
The 22-year-old’s love for music started early on. At the young age of seven she began writing music, by age 10 she began rapping, age eleven she was recording in a childhood friend’s studio, and singing by age 12.

1. From where do you draw musical inspiration?
My environment, some things I’ve gone through some things my friends have gone through. It just comes to me at 3 or 4 in the morning and I’ll get up and write it down.
2. How did you get involved with Black&SexyTV?
I was 19 years old, sophomore in college and won a competition by Coast 2 Coast mixtape hosted by Chrisette Michele with my song “Grown.” I sent my music out and Dennis Dortch (creator of Black&SexyTV) reached out and from there I would always send him music and we would stay in constant communication.
3. What do you think of the state of today’s music?
Interesting, she said as she laughed. It’s okay. I’m more of a lyrical person. I just like people with content. I prefer 90's music and early 2000's music.
4. What is currently on your playlist?
James Fauntleroy's mixtape, R. Kelly, Joe, Alicia Keys, Avant, Sevyn Streeter.
5. What projects are you currently working on?
Mainly looking for new people to work with. I'm focused on new partnerships, pushing my music and broadening my audience. By 2016 I will definitely to have a visual out.

I really appreciate the people who listen to my music. It’s amazing to know that people rock with you.
