Joseph “Beau” Biden III, the son of U.S. Vice President Joe Biden and former state attorney general of Delaware, died Saturday from brain cancer.

Beau Biden, a major in the Delaware Army National Guard’s Judge Advocate General Corps, became one of his state’s most popular public figures.  He has served in the Delaware National Guard and was a JAG officer.

The Vice President's Office released this statement:

It is with broken hearts that Hallie, Hunter, Ashley, Jill and I announce the passing of our husband, brother and son, Beau, after he battled brain cancer with the same integrity, courage and strength he demonstrated every day of his life.

The entire Biden family is saddened beyond words. We know that Beau’s spirit will live on in all of us—especially through his brave wife, Hallie, and two remarkable children, Natalie and Hunter.

Beau’s life was defined by service to others. As a young lawyer, he worked to establish the rule of law in war-torn Kosovo. A major in the Delaware National Guard, he was an Iraq War veteran and was awarded the Bronze Star. As Delaware’s Attorney General, he fought for the powerless and made it his mission to protect children from abuse.

More than his professional accomplishments, Beau measured himself as a husband, father, son and brother. His absolute honor made him a role model for our family. Beau embodied my father’s saying that a parent knows success when his child turns out better than he did.

In the words of the Biden family: Beau Biden was, quite simply, the finest man any of us have ever known.

Biden is survived by his wife, Hallie, and two children.

So how exactly does live anthrax get shipped in the mail by the U.S. Military?

This is the question many people are asking after live anthrax spores spread across 11 U.S. states and two foreign countries.

Army’s Dugway Proving Ground, an Army biodefense facility in Utah, mistakenly sent live samples to 18 private and military laboratories. Most of the samples were sent through Fed-Ex mail contained live spores.
“At this time we do not suspect any risk to the general public,” the CDC said in a statement Thursday.
Officials are still trying to determine how live anthrax was shipped and is currently reviewing its protocols. So far, all labs and transportation that may have come into contact with the spores have had investigators and officials sent to the site. At least 26 people are currently receiving pre-cautionary treatment.

Nebraska Just Repealed The Death Penalty With Bi-Partisan Support

On Wednesday, Nebraska's Legislature repealed the death penalty, after overriding the Republican Governor  Pete Ricketts' veto. This repeal is significant as Nebraska becomes the first conservative red state to abolish the death penalty.
The Omaha World-Herald notes: "In the most suspenseful decision to play out in Nebraska's one-house Legislature in years, lawmakers voted 30-19 to override Gov. Pete Ricketts' veto of Legislative Bill 268. Without a vote to spare, the override replaced lethal injection with life in prison."
While support for the death penalty has remained on a steady decline in the past few decades, public support still remains over 50% in favor. However, support for the death penalty has reached a new 40 year low. Support for the repeal of the death penalty has gained bi-partisan support. With new science such as DNA playing a huge role in overturning wrongful convictions, people have taken a deeper look at the death penalty. The repeal of the death penalty has also gained Bi-Partisan support because it is costly.

There is evidence that cases surrounding the death penalty are more expensive than ones without it. In present day, the cost of appeals are only adding to that expense. Evidence also points that executions are more costly than a sentencing to life in prison.

The Legislature, by a 30-to-19 with bi-partisan support, overrode the governor’s veto of a bill repealing the state’s death penalty law. The issue of capital punishment is now significant as candidate's gear up for the upcoming 2016 election.

Taco Bell and Pizza Hut Say Goodbye To Artificial  Ingredients

Fast food giants are quickly leaving the world of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO's) behind. Earlier this year, Chipotle announced that GMO's would be taken out of their menu selections. Chipotle is now able to market themselves as a gmo-free brand perhaps gaining more clientele.

While the Food and Drug Administartion says GMO's are safe and there is no evidence that they cause harm, many companies are still abandoning the branding in their food.

Both Taco Bell and Pizza Hut, which are both owned by Yum Brands, has announced that it too will do away with artificial ingredients. Pizza Hut says it will remove artificial colors and preservatives by the end of July. Taco Bell says it will take out artificial colors, artificial flavors, high-fructose corn syrup, and unsustainable palm oil from its food by the end of 2015.
At a conference for investors late last year, Yum CEO Greg Creed referred to the shifting attitudes and the desire for "real food" as a revolution in the industry.
These changes do not effect fountain drink products at either Taco Bell or Pizza Hut. Nor do they change the Doritos partnership.

The above video is from CNN.com

A Florida dentist who is under investigation by the State Attorney General after mutiple claims of abuse has relinquished his medical license, according to the Florida Department of Health.

Dr. Howard Schneider gave the Florida Department of Health a voluntary relinquishment of his license this week pending upcoming board action.

The the past several weeks protesters gathered daily outside of his Dr. Schneider's office eventually sparked the criminal investigation and caused the closing of his practice on May 15.

Schneider said he's done nothing wrong, but, on Friday, he stepped down from practicing dentistry, according to the Associated Press.

The firestorm started after Brandi Motley wrote about the day she took to her 6-year-old daughter, Bri'el, to Schneider to have one tooth pulled.

On the day of surgery in December 2014, Motley said she was not allowed to sit with her daughter.

"The nurse suggested that it's best - that kids act better when parents aren't in the room. So they said we don't like parents back here for the procedures," she said.

Motley said she sat in the waiting room for three hours until the waiting turned to worrying.

"Finally, the nurse came and got me and she said there had been an incident," Brandi Motley said. "(Bri'el) was hyperventilating. She had marks all over her, blood all over her."

Angry and unable to get an clear explanation of what had happened, Motley says she and Bri'el left to rush to an emergency room.

"In the parking lot, she takes her gauze out, and I notice that all of her teeth were gone," Motley said.

She said Schneider pulled seven teeth.

According to her mom, Bri'el said Schneider hit and choked her, so she called police - twice. Although department records indicate officers responded and according to police logs one wrote a report, Jacksonville Sheriff's office told CNN "no report was written on this incident."

Initially, no attorney would take her case.

"That's when I decided to put her pictures on my Facebook and tell everybody what happened," Motley said.

Her story went viral, and soon, other parents posted their children's pictures and claims of unwanted procedures and abuse at the hands of Schneider.

A video shows a substitute teacher in Maryland beating a student with what looks to be a leather belt.

In the video children can seen running away (and a few ducking on the floor) and heard screaming. The video has already gone viral.

The incident took place on May 15 at Gwynn Park Middle School. It is unknown why the teacher lashed out at students, but according to Dan Good of "Good Morning America" town residents and parents are outraged.
“I just couldn’t imagine a grown man hitting my child,” Edward Torrence said.

“I really feel that’s wrong,” added Iris Wood.

According to the school, the unknown substitute teacher has been removed from the classroom. In a statement, the school called the teacher’s actions “improper."

The school said it "does not condone this type of behavior, and it is not representative of the level of professionalism and respectful conduct of the team at the school."
