The #sayhername campaign seeks to recognize, remember, and change state violence against black women and girls in America. There has been many cases in the headlines recently that tell the story how black men are often treated with violence and killed by the police. The struggle of black women and their stories often remains a a silent one. On May 21st, a national day of action was called to recognize this struggle. Demonstrators across the nation, took the streets to honor recent victims such as Aiyana Stanley-Jones and Rekia Boyd, as well as the countless of victims of police brutality. |
Rose Berry works for the local chapter of the Black Youth Project 100 said:“We wanted to kick off the day, give them a dose of black women’s liberation with their morning coffee,” she said. “We won’t be ignored anymore. We’re not invisible. We’ve never been invisible.”
