On Sunday, an event called "Draw the Prophet" was held in Garland, Texas. The event invited people to draw the Prophet Muhammad, which is considered a sin or at the very least offensive to most Muslims.The event was hosted by the American Freedom Defense Initiative, an anti-islamic group.
The two gunman began shooting outside of where the contest was being held. The two men were on social media (Twitter) shortly before the shooting expressing allegiance with ISIS, an extremist Islamic Group. Those two gunman were shot dead by a traffic officer patrolling the event.
Their aim was to shoot and kill people inside the event. One safety agent injured in the shooting has been released from the hospital. The FBI began working with local officials to solve this crime.
The two gunman have been identified. Elton Simpson, one of the gunman, had been on a FBI watch list for terrorism before. The other gunman was Simpson's roommate in Phoenix, Arizona.
Muslim leaders from a nearby Dallas area had strongly condemned the violent attack in the name of Islam.
