On Thursday, April 9th, a deadly tornado hit in DeKalb County just 80 miles south of Chicago. The tornado was classified as EF-4.
EF-4 rating classifications can produce winds above 200 mph and cause extreme damage to the area.
Two people were killed and 20 were injured in this destructive tornado. Homes,cars, and property were also leveled.

| National Weather Service meteorologist Gino Izzi told the Chicago Tribune there was “a path of 50 miles of intermittent tornado damage, potentially a single track or a couple of tracks.” The destruction began west of Rochelle and continued toward McHenry County, Izzi said. |
