After about six months of bushy brows I finally went to the salon to get them done. I know, I know, six months is long over due, but I got them threaded and ugh I did not like them at all; too thin and not my shape. Aside from that mishap, I've been under a lot of stress and worry lately so I've noticed they were thinning. So sad. I like full brows. So I basically extended No-Shave November until April, and voíla, full luscious brows. My superior noticed I guess, except she went on to say "did you tan? With that hair style and your glow you lookin' a little Indian." LOL. Lady, I do not purposely tan, I'm bronze-chocolate enough and I've always worn protective styes since you've known me! It's definitely the power of a good brow, changed my whole look up!
Sometimes we all have those moments, I wish I could have more in my life. More love, more money, more respect...whatever the case may be. Little do we often we realize we should stop and be thankful for all the things that we do have. So this weekend, even if you sit at home and do nothing or go work grueling hours, BE THANKFUL THAT YOU ARE LIVING. Written by: Lauren B. I @laurenbeal
Today while volunteering I was talking to another volunteer as we worked together in the kitchen. It started with small talk, you know surface level basics what's your name, are you from here, what do you do. I told him I worked in a domestic violence transitional shelter, but my career goals consist of journalism eventually. He said he was in music and after traveling around awhile ended up here in LA. After more detail seeking questions we agreed that in both businesses it's who you know. After telling him I'm not giving up on networking and how, although I have a family member doing what I am interested in, I'm more comfortable talking to strangers who will either try to help or simply say no. It's easier for whatever reason and from my experience strangers are more willing to help than those close to me. Again, he agreed. He went on to tell me about a cousin of his who is in the journalism field and would it be okay to connect us. WOULD IT!? Of course!! See, here he just proved my point. A total stranger willing to help connect a stranger with someone in her goal career field. Such a blessing! *I am not saying ALL strangers are dope. Remember kids don't talk to [all] strangers. I've recently climbed out of the worst feeling low periods I've had thus far in my life. I've slowly been pushing and motivating myself to get back into my groove of things at a healthier rate - not overworking and under sleeping or eating. With all of the progress I've made, dark moments continuously try to creep in. For example, today I went to volunteer at my usual place of choice. I decided to ride my bike. A third of the way there my bike starting making a loud squeaking noise (like Debo's bike, but worse). I didn't let that deter me. I hopped off and walked the rest of the way. Now, coming back home was a different story. I tried riding back and my bike jolted crazily. When I got off to check it out, nothing appeared to be wrong. I began walking my bike, only for the back tire to suddenly stop rolling. It is always something. But I didn't let that get to me. I stopped and sat for awhile to just stop and meditate. Has that ever happened to you? When you get your happiness or life on track and all is well, negative things slowly poke at you? WRITTEN BY: VIOLA CONSTANCE | @Voila_its_Viola
Someone shared this photo on Facebook and I immediately saved it. This spoke to me on many levels with all that I have been dealing with as of late. In the volunteer work that I do, I've noticed discrepancies in goals within the organization and its volunteers as well as in my workplace. Both organizations are known to help others, but from my perspective that isn't entirely true, the bare minimum is done. I've noticed this within family and friend circles where one individual will be in a hard place and willing to help someone else out and the other person is plotting how to further break the same one that helped them. Ain't that some ish! But that's real life! Crab in a barrel mentality if you will. Sad, but true. WRITTEN BY: VIOLA CONSTANCE | @Voila_its_Viola
For the last four or so days I've been neglecting technology in so many ways. Mainly social media. I have been slowly getting in a, uh, healthier flow in checking/keeping up with the "world" via social media. I go on my Tumblr to see this video on my dashboard. Please watch the video in its entirety if not just for as long as you can stand. I really want to hear how others view this. My opinion, in short, I am upset with both Sheryl Underwood and this guys statements. There are a few points he made that I agree with, however the generalization and stereotyping, i cannot do. With Summer right around the corner, many are now starting their summer work out programs. While I can say I am tempted to start working out more, I always do it and lose it. I think instead this summer I want to start with a lifestyle food change. I want to detox and juice fast. While I have completed both before it was always on a small sale for a week or so. I have heard of 30 day challenge or 2 week challenges that I might be interested in trying. More reach and decisions to come. Written By: Lauren B. I @laurenbeal
I am currently in the midst of a 30 day prayer challenge through YouVersion Bible App. This challenge is amazing and is slowly transforming the way I interact with my bible. It provides devotional content and bible scriptures each day in the app. I challenge you to a download as well and prayer challenge as well. Written By: Lauren Beal I @laurenbeal
Why do people try to impress others in the wrong fashion? Yesterday I went out on a job observation shadowing two young men. One had been working with this company for about 6 months the other maybe 2 weeks. The entire day was cool. I was able to see two different positions within the company, how the company signed new clients and kept those they already had, I also saw teamwork while in the field. Nice! As the day came to an end we all were more comfortable with one another. We were singing and rapping to Drake on the way back to the office when 2week guy asks "so you a Drake fan, what was his first song ever?" -_- really? Because I said I have his current album. Then he goes into "he ain't even in my top10 of favorite rappers" I said that's nice, he doesn't pay any of my bills so clearly idgaf. Maybe too far, but when I'm annoyed, I'm annoyed. All of a sudden this guys telling me how he knows the music business and he hangs out with Young Buck and some other rapper guy obviously not that important that I can't even remember his name and he's no groupie he "be on stage with them at shows." Okay you want a cookie? Was that supposed to earn you cool points or what? My confusion is I've just spent a good amount of time with you on your job, asked you about your opinions on your standing with this company (nit that promising) yet "yo rapper homies" can't put you on since you're always with them and know the music business so well. Highly confused. Someone, anyone please explain this to me. WRITTEN BY: VIOLA CONSTANCE | @Voila_its_Viola
So this weekend I was in Malibu and trying to find parking. Anyone from LA knows the hassle of trying to find street parking or the struggle of the pay and wait game. Yesterday was the struggle and wait game for me. I waited about 15 minutes to find a parking spot and another 10 for the surfer to pack all his stuff and move his car. I waited patiently with my blinker on. As soon as he pulls out this person tries to dive in for the spot. All I shouted out my car was "not today mam"! The guy ended up pulling back into the spot and reversing to block her and let me have the spot. Thank God because the audacity of some people. Written By: Lauren Beal I @laurenbeal
