On Tuesday, a Berkeley balcony apartment collapsed that left five people died and eight others were wounded. The apartment is located mere blocks from UC Berkeley and often houses students.
Police have said that among those killed and injured included Irish nationals. In total, thirteen people fell from the balcony. The balcony fell to the sidewalk from the fourth-floor.

“My heart goes out to the families and loved ones of the deceased and those who have been injured in this appalling accident,” Ireland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Charlie Flanagan said in the statement.
How the balcony collapsed has not been figured out yet. Police are investigating but have not confirmed that there was some sort of gathering was taking place at the apartment.
