Taraji P. Henson was Afraid to Play 'Empire's' Cookie

Who knew Taraji P. Henson had some reserve about starring as 'Empire's' infamous Cookie Lyons. Henson admitted during a Q&A with TheWrap that at first she thought the character was so ghetto.

“I struggled with it because I was like, ‘Oh, my God. She is so ghetto.’ But then I was like, ‘But she’s so real. She speaks the truth.’” 

Cookie may be a bit ghetto, but we all know she tells it like it is. Luckily, Henson went for the role to bring us all Cookie Lyon.

This past Sunday Henson took the title of the first African-American woman to win Best Actress in a Drama Series at the Critics’ Choice Television Awards.
